While the Forerunner 235 does have a lot of nice features, including the optical HR monitor, it does have some serious issues as well. Connectivity and synching by blueooth to my smartphone was so hit and miss, I finally gave up on it. I have been synching by USB cable to Garmin connect. But even that has been extremely erratic. It would require a reboot of the watch occasionally for it to gain synch. My current problem is that the watch has stopped charging. I don't know if its the charging cable or the watch itself. Not impressive for a watch of this price that's only 15 months old.
    • Essential every day device that super-sizes your outdoor data tracking

Review by Karenramel (Posted on 5/10/17)

I bought my 235 almost six month ago and I've not regretted a minute of having it.

I love my watch for everyday use and have a glass screen protector on its face.

I Bluetooth connect my iPhone 6s+ with my watch all day which means a slightly need to charge my iPhone more (I'm ok with that) and means my watch power often goes 4-6 days on a single charge. Which is fantastic!

I get call and text notifications, tweets, calendar reminders, step info and sleep data tracking.

Given that only the basic functions are outlined in regards to using this device - I asked others and watched YouTube vids - expect to spend some time with learning what you can do with it.

To fully take advantage of this device you will be using their website via a web browser however some basic settings can additionally be set using the connect smartphone app (android or iOS). For example while you can setup interval timing on the actual device, setting up a workout that you customize on the logged-in website and syncing it to the watch pretty much makes training plans exactly what you want (i.e. Run 10k walk 4 minutes repeat. Etc). Data transfer can be done Bluetooth or via computer via USB cord. Once activity info is synced with connect you can even have it automatically upload to the strava website (free account or not) and share (or not) any tracked fitness with any other person or group there (there's a running room group!).

My personal tip: get yourself a second power cord (ensure its for the 235) and a collection of glass screen protectors.

On top of that with the wide variety of widgets (accessed by lower left button), watch faces and activity data screens (customizable views for in-activity data display) other than a slightly less than smooth interface sync its all anyone could ever wish for.
