CIBC Spirit of Leadership Community Award 2009 Across the country, CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities. CIBC aims to make a difference in communities across Canada through corporate donations, and sponsorships to support charities nationwide. Towards the end of every year, CIBC chooses several worthy charitable projects as part of our Spirit of Leadership Program. The CIBC Commercial Banking 2009 Spirit of Leadership Community Award Program allowed us to partner with our clients and give back to the communities in which we do business. The 2009 Commercial Banking market adjudication panel carefully selected the charitable projects and initiatives of our clients to whom we will contribute a portion of the $40,000 Spirit of Leadership Community Award. CIBC Commercial Banking is proud to partner with the recipients of the 2009 CIBC Spirit of Leadership Community Award Program. Below are the 2009 Award Winners: Running Room Canada Inc. - Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) The Running Room is an Alberta Company, which originated in 1984 out of founder John Stanton's wish to purchase quality running shoes from someone knowledgeable about the sport. After finding the quality of service and knowledge in large sporting goods stores poor, Mr. Stanton decided to fill this niche in the marketplace by opening a small one room store in the renovated living room of an old house in Edmonton, hence the name "Running Room". With over 98 locations across North America, Running Room services the needs of their customers by providing them with the very best product to support an active lifestyle. They also service the community by providing Running and Walking clinics to teach customers how to develop and sustain safe and healthy fitness programs. In keeping with their service to the community The Running Room has been a national sponsor of CIBC's Run for the Cure since 1993. Their employees not only volunteer their time to help organize local races across Canada, they participate in the runs themselves. Running Room provides Survivor Learn-to-Run clinics as well as product giveaways on the day of the run. Throughout the year, their Pink Ribbon clothing line is sold in their stores, with a portion of the profits going to the CBCF. With their support, CBCF is able to continue to fund innovative research, education and awareness programs about Breast Cancer, across Canada. Running Room donated their 2009 Spirit of Leadership award directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. |
