Your Health Comes First

Before you lace up, it’s wise to check in with a physician who understands strenuous exercise. Be sensitive to the first signs of any cardiovascular problem: irregular heart rhythm, shortness of breath, pain in the heart area and any unnatural reaction of your cardiovascular system. If any of these things happen during any of your exercise sessions, slow down and get help immediately. Always make sure to carry your ID, any important information, and your phone in case of an emergency while you’re running. A medical check is especially important if you have any of these risk factors:

  • Diabetes
  • More than 50 pounds of excess weight
  • A history of smoking
  • High cholesterol
  • Hypertension

These don’t disqualify you from running; they simply mean your body deserves a little extra attention before you hit the pavement.
