Features & Benefits

Midsole
  • Mizuno Wave consists of an elastic, thermal plastic wave running from the heel to the midfoot, creating an incredibly springy and well-cushioned ride.
  • SR Touch cushioning compound provides resiliency and rebound in the heel for shock absorption.
  • Smooth Ride is a gender specific network of grooves that minimizes the rapid acceleration and deceleration of the foot to create a smooth heel to toe ride.
  • U4ic is a lightweight midsole that provides optimal shock absorption, durability and a resilient ride.
  • Extended Wave Plate in the midfoot is an extension of the Mizuno Wave for increased torsional rigidity between the heel and forefoot.
  • Mizuno Intercool ventilation system in the midsole inhibits humidity buildup to keep feet cool and dry.
  • Gender Engineering utilizes gender-specific attributes such as a wider base in men's shoes and additional flex grooves in women's shoes.

  • Upper
  • AIRmesh covers the entire upper and provides breathability to keep the foot cool.
  • Stitched Overlays on the medial and lateral sides help secure the foot in place.
  • OrthoLite Sockliner is anti-microbial and moisture wicking for a healthy foot environment.
  • Dynamotion Fit creates optimal fit with stretch material in the forefoot and a collar construction that prevents the heel collar from buckling under load.
  • Strobel Last with the upper stitched to full length fabric for a comfortable underfoot feel.

  • Outsole
  • X10 located in the heel is made of durable carbon rubber for enhanced traction.
  • Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.
  • Flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.
    • Perfect Runner for me

I love this shoes, with my low arch issue, finding it right pairs of runner or any kind of shoes is very important to me. It felt a bit heavy to begin with, but I find I don't have the problems (joints & hip pain) like the other two reviewers and I had run my 1st 10K in it a year ago and I felt fine. I am about to get a new pair to replace my current one and seriously thinking about buying this pair again runners are expensive and it is hard to find one that works and feels (also looks good, too) great in it.
    • Better, but not great

I bought these desperately hoping that these shoes would feel better than last year's catastrophe, and for the record the construction of the 18's does feel better on the foot initially. Unfortunately, I don't find these to feel as good for the joints as I did the 16's, and I'll have to agree that these feel more like a stability shoe than a neutral. I had worn these shoes for several short runs and I found them clunky and heavy in the forefoot. When I finally took them for a long run, I was experiencing knee and hip pain (which I haven't had in years) before I even made it 10k. Yet, when I threw on my 16's to do 20k I had no issues.

I'm frustrated because finding a new shoe is difficult and my 16's will be done by the end of the season :(

I wear neutral runners. The Mizuno Wave Rider 17 worked well for me. The new model, Wave Rider 18 feels good when putting on. It is how I feel after my run. Foot and knee pain. I think it is because they have made it more of a stability shoe. Thumbs down for me about this shoe. I am very disappointed as they were expensive!
